We enjoyed an all-day excursion on Saturday to the Argentine countryside about an hour and a half outside Mar del Plata. Our first stop was the “Esquina de Arguas,” a general store and entertainment meeting place where the gauchos, the indigenous cowboys, used to meet for cards and drinks after a hard day of work at the “estancia” or farm.
We headed next to La Cautiva, a beautiful estancia that has been transformed into a boutique hotel. We enjoyed horseback riding, playing futbol and croquet, a traditional barbeque lunch, and a musical treat of a traditional Argentine band. There were eight young puppies just born on the farm, and we enjoyed playing with them and giving them names. It was a beautiful day outside and we enjoyed practicing our Spanish and learning more about traditional Argentine culture through food, music, and architecture.
